SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif – According to FOX40, an infant and at least four were killed in an accident involving a minivan with seven inside. A 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan was traveling between 60 and 65 mph headed west on Highway 120, west of Highway 99, in Manteca at approximately 10:07 PM.
The driver of the Toyota then lost control of the vehicle. Authorities stated that earlier rain had made the roadway damp.
The Toyota Sienna minivan then went west off of the freeway and into the median. Going down into the median caused the minivan to take flight. Coming down, it hit the Van Ryn Avenue overpass, flipped over, and set ablaze.
According to the California Highway Patrol, four of the minivan’s occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
Samaritans were able to pull four children from the Toyota Sienna. These include an infant and three others between the ages of six and 14.
While authorities are unsure as to if alcohol or drugs factored into the crash, the investigation is ongoing.
