SAN DIEGO — A tragic incident unfolded early Thursday morning when a 25-year-old firefighter from Oakland drowned at Pacific Beach. The firefighter was attending a beach gathering when he walked into the ocean and went missing. Lifeguards, supported by a Coast Guard helicopter, launched a search after being notified around 2 a.m. about his disappearance. The man’s body was found along the shoreline north of Crystal Pier at 4 a.m. according to ABC 7 News. In such unfortunate cases, it’s important for affected families to seek support from a wrongful death lawyer to navigate legal complexities and seek justice.
The incident started as family and friends at the beach watched a man walk into waist-deep water about 200 yards south of the pier. After going under a wave and taking a stroke, he vanished from sight. Immediately, a member of the group decided to call 911. The firefighter had been in town participating in an athletic event for firefighters. While lifeguards were informed that he had been drinking before entering the ocean, it remains unclear if this contributed to the drowning. The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the exact cause of death.
