HEMET, Calif – According to Patch, a driver lost control of his vehicle while not wearing a seatbelt and allegedly speeding. He crashed into oncoming traffic and died at age 23.

According to the coroner’s bureau, Samuel Ramirez of Moreno Valley was pronounced dead late Thursday at the Riverside University Health System Medical Center.

At around 10 PM Thursday, Ramirez drove west in his silver Honda Accord on Stetson Ave, going at what was referred to by the preliminary Hemet Police Department as a “high rate of speed.” That’s when he skidded into oncoming traffic after losing control. There, he was struck by a blue Mazda CX3.

According to police, drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors but Ramirez was excessively speeding without wearing a seat belt.

Ramirez was alone in the Honda. The driver of the Mazda went to a hospital to treat minor injuries. Both lanes of Stetson Ave, between Sanderson and Kirby, were closed for nearly five hours.
