A 2020 Toyota Sienna veered off the roadway for unknown reasons, crashed into a storage facility, and then caught fire. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle when the fire erupted.
CHP officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel responded to the scene. A CHP officer used his baton to break the driver’s side window and begin extinguishing the fire. Firefighters then arrived and were able to pull the driver from the burning vehicle.
The driver was transported to a nearby hospital with major injuries. Their current condition and identity are not known at this time.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
