Bishop, Calif. – As a car accident attorney, I’m deeply concerned about the incident that occurred in Bishop, California, involving a high-speed pursuit and crash. We stand with those who may have been affected by this dangerous incident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred on October 21, 2023, at approximately 11:00 AM. Witnesses observed a silver Toyota Celica driving at 100 mph, south of Independence on northbound US-395.
The vehicle’s driver, whose name the authorities have not released, failed to yield to a traffic stop and led officers on a high-speed pursuit through Independence, reaching speeds of up to 120 mph.
The pursuit continued through Big Pine, where the vehicle crashed into a fence at the Country Kitchen’s parking lot. The driver then fled the scene and continued the pursuit before crashing again at the intersection of School Street and County Road.
The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the desert. They were eventually located and taken into custody.
It is unclear at this time whether the incident injured anyone. However, high-speed pursuits pose a significant risk to both the drivers involved and the general public.
